Affordable Health Care: How to Achieve Low Cost Health Care

affordable health careAre you trying to find affordable health care? Low cost health care is achievable with the best kept secret in health care!

Unless you’ve been living under a rock over the last few years you know that health care cost have skyrocketed over the last number of years. As a matter of fact, not only has the cost of health care skyrocketed over the last couple of years, many individuals and families have lost (or had it cancelled) their chosen health insurance plans all together. So what is causing all these recent problems with health care? Well, there are many reasons (and too extensive to mention here) for this crisis, but one of the main culprits is the huge new law passed by congress in 2010 called the “Affordable Care Act” AKA the “Affordable Care (less) Act” and/or Obamacare. This new law made the already complex healthcare system even more complex – healthcare dictated by politics and managed by the federal government (Washington D.C.). The bottom line is that the Affordable Care Act has been an unmitigated disaster!

Let’s briefly begin the discussion by talking about the major flaws of the current health care system.

Major Flaws of the Current Health Care System

One of the major flaws of our current health care system is that it is more reactive than proactive. Here’s an example of what we mean by that.

Traditional Healthcare System: Patients present themselves to the healthcare world and they are treating symptoms or particular conditions and they are reacting to the presentation of an illness or a disease. It is a disease and sickness driven system. Or in-other words the traditional healthcare system is a reactive system that does nothing more than treat and mask the illness and symptoms.

Alternative Health Care System: An alternative health care system/program incentivizes and encourages individuals to lead and make healthy choices. It is a preventive healthcare system (e.g. prevents the condition from occurring in the first place). Or in-other-words it is a proactive health care system that places great emphasis on prevention and wellness.

OK, so now we know what the problem is, but what about a solution? Are there other options out there for health insurance coverage? Are there other affordable health care plans out there? Or are there alternative options for those individuals and families who cannot afford the expensive health care plans offered by the federal health insurance marketplace (the health insurance offered by the federal government)? Well, I have good news because there are other options out there for individuals and families who have been harmed by the federal government health care law which has been a disaster to this point.

Medical Cost Sharing: The Best Kept Secret in Health Care

Before we begin our discussion on this money saving health care option, we need to first of all define what exactly medical cost sharing is.

Very simply this is a group of likeminded individuals who have joined together for the express purpose of sharing their monthly medical expenses. Or in-other-words, as a member you are sharing in each other’s medical expenses and paying for medical bills. This is all done outside the normal insurance world, and this helps members save thousands of dollars.

What I love about this program is that it preserves our freedom to make our own healthcare decisions, and restores our doctor patient relationships. It also engages in healthcare in a way that goes back to its original roots – to help one another. And helping one another is the DNA of America!

Next let’s discuss the benefits of the program.

Benefits of Medical Cost Sharing

Medical cost sharing addresses the root causes of accelerating health care cost and solves the issue of rising healthcare cost.

Advocates and promotes preventive health care and wellness.

Low cost alternative to meeting rising healthcare cost.

For those with pre-existing conditions they assign a health coach who creates a game plan to help alter and change the individual’s behavior and lifestyle. It is a way to improve the individual’s health while reducing the risk of developing or exacerbating serious diseases. Or in other words they create a pathway for health and wellness.

You get the option to control your own healthcare. This means that you can manage your own healthcare cost and have total control as a self-pay patient. And members have skin in the game as a result of this.

Can go to any doctor or hospital you choose.

Free from government control. It abandons the bureaucratic system of insurance and government funding.

It puts solutions in the hands of people at the grass roots level who know what they need most and know what the solutions are.

The program is exempt from both the fines and mandates of the Affordable Care Act. Which also means you can opt out of Obamacare.

It addresses the two biggest flaws in the healthcare system today; (1) the third party pay system (2) the issue of sick care as opposed to health care. The current healthcare system model for paying physicians is based on how many times you are seen by your physician because you’re sick – and that is a sick care system that is not really focused on the care of your health.

Doctors love the program because reimbursement is fair and timely and it eliminates all of the bureaucracy that normally comes with dealing with insurance claims. Decision is now between doctor and patient.

Member owned, member driven, and member decided program and this helps members save thousands of dollars in upfront medical bills yearly.

Program attracts health conscience individuals. People who are health conscience individuals have fewer bills, and recover more quickly.

All medical billing from service provided is audited and reviewed to make sure the billing is correct. This is important because there is a massive problem in the health care world in terms of billing mistakes. With medical cost sharing your medical bill is reviewed for accuracy and they make sure that the services provided are actually the services that are received.

After you become a member you begin to realize that (a) you don’t have to spend as much on health care as you would with a standard health insurance policy (b) you get to choose your own doctor (c) You get to choose your course of treatment.

Powerful program because it is voluntary. People choose this program because they want to do it not because someone is making them do it (e.g. Obamacare).

Empowering people to take responsibility for their health.

This program is especially ideal for young people who really are healthy and don’t need to spend all this extra money for stuff they’re never going to need. Alternatively under the Affordable Care Act, you are responsible for paying for medical services that you really don’t need.

Provides a solution to the number one flaw of Obamacare: Obamacare does not keep healthcare cost down, alternatively medical cost sharing reduces healthcare cost substantially.

It’s a program that provides you more choice and better quality.

Medical cost sharing is a health care system not a disease driven system (e.g. big medicine and the health insurance industry).

This program provides a path that will keep you healthy, keep you out of the hospital system, and help you live a long productive life and because of that everyone wins.

The bottom line is that it all adds up to much lower health care cost and healthier people because those who choose to this program are taking responsibility for their own health.

So those are just a few examples of the many benefits that medical cost sharing provides. And as you can see from the enormous benefits of this program, this is in fact the “best kept secret in healthcare”.

And lastly I cannot think of a better way to conclude this review than by telling you how much money you can save with medical cost sharing – and do so by using real and actual numbers. Let’s begin with an example using a cost comparison chart. The comparison will be between the health care plans offered by the federal health insurance marketplace (the health insurance offered by the federal government) and the health care plans offered by medical cost sharing.

NOTE: I am going to be using myself as an example to show you how much money you can save. These are actual and real numbers. I applied for single coverage. The numbers will be different for couple and family coverage, however the cost savings will be just as enormous.

Cost Comparison Chart

Medical Cost Sharing versus The Federal Health Insurance Marketplace (the health insurance offered by the federal government)

Medical Cost Sharing Plan Federal Health Insurance Plan
Monthly Payments Monthly Payments
$200 $200
Out-of-Pocket Expenses Out-of-Pocket Expenses
$500 $6800
$6800 minus $500 equals $6300 cost savings

If you refer to the chart above and you think that the numbers are a misprint, then you are mistaken. The amount of money that you would save in out-of-pocket expenses for a medical incident with medical cost sharing is $6300. And that is just for one medical incident annually. If you had multiple medical incidents in a calendar year (12 months), the amount of money that you would be saving in out-of-pocket expenses could be in the tens of thousands of dollars.

Let me give you another great example to prove my point.

I just recently had a medical incident that included a total cost of $3000. If I had insurance with the federal government, it would had cost me $3000 in out-of-pocket expenses (based on a $6800 deductible). Alternatively under the medical cost sharing program, my out-of-pocket expenses would have only been $500 – a cost savings of $2500!

So as you can plainly see from the amount of money that you can save with medical cost sharing this really truly is affordable health care. And as indicated in my headline above, medical cost sharing is the “best kept secret in healthcare”!
